Almost there! - Update 9

It's been a hectic, but fantastic, week of building and researching and marketing and many other things!

To focus back in, spend the first 15 minutes of class with your team writing an update that includes the following:
  • Status of your garden box component.
    • What's the best thing you've done so far?
    • What's left?
  • Status of your "Pitch the Change" component.
    • What's the "best" thing you've found out so far?
    • What's left?
  • Individual update from each member identifying one enduring understanding so far.

Day 8 Goals

Make sure to have your daily reports completed and posted BEFORE the end of class!
Make sure to include some details of what you accomplished today. We should see something from the core group AND something from the marketers.

Today, we will continue from where we left off on Thursday. Certain groups will be building while others are continuing to work on researching, and consolidating their research on, their issues.

Most of you are still working on Step 3 from this document, Research. If you are feeling done with Step 3, move onto Step 4 & 5.

9.4 Marketers:

You MUST finalize your marketing ideas so we can pass them on to 9.3! We will meet first thing this class, and you will probably be out of your core groups for most of the class. You need to accomplish at least:

  • details on the look of our campaign (exact colours, fonts, logo/mascot, etc.)
  • exactly what each core group must produce for the event on May 6
  • template(s) for core groups to use to start filling in their research; consider the templates in pages as guides

9.3 Marketers:

Check the marketing doc for the information from the 9.4 marketers. Then, start working on the following:

  • Spectrum article (1-3)
  • posters for printing and posting around town
  • digital poster for sending out to our school community via email/posting on Edmodo, etc.

Day 6 Goals

Today one group will begin building their garden box.  Together, we will need to make some final design decisions as well as organize the material you will need.

All other groups should continue working on your research projects.  Specifically, you should work through step 3 in the "Pitch the Change" document:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/16-UKbvq9a0RSQoUHNEr8GQVGBb_7xaG1Zp7OzJQPfSc/edit

The researcher in your group should create a Google doc that is shared with EVERYONE in the group.

As a group, work together to find resources to help you become experts on your issue. Be thorough, and consider more than just finding info on Google. Is there an expert you can contact? A book? A person in your extended community you can consult? Remember to include details on WHERE you find your information so you can cite this in your presentation in order to ensure credibility.

Day 5 Goals

ALL GROUP MEMBERS

Today you will be collaborating with your group to explore and investigate some of the issues that might play a role in our consumer decisions. Explore the 'why' of consumerism.

Remember to reflect on our guiding question:

What role should ethical decision-making play in our consumer practices?

To guide your process follow the instructions in this doc:

Day 3 Goals

Designer
Today, work to provide a material list for your garden box.  Think through key areas of your design that could be challenging such as the joints of your garden box. We need a detailed design with every dimension.
Marketer
Today you are going to working with either (or both) the designer and research to help finalize your design for tomorrow's presentation.
Researcher
You are the 'lead' for tomorrow's presentation. Make sure you have made clear connections between your philosophy and design. Your presentation will be evaluated on these 3 things:

  • Pragmatics of design (can we build it in a timely matter? is it affordable?)
  • Function and desirability of your box (Is this something that our consumers are going to buy?
  • Ability to promote and encourage the consumer to grow food and make sustainable consumer choices
Group Goals:
Make sure your group has received feedback on your design and material list

Remember to complete your daily report in last 10 minutes of class.

Day 2 Goals

Designer
Think about the pragmatics of building the garden box.  A good designer is not only innovative, but also pragmatic!
Consider making multiple designs to present to your group.

Marketer
Today you are continuing to research the question what makes a popular garden box? Consider making a quantitative report for your group.   Also, continue providing advice and working with designer to make sure garden box design is going to be desirable.

Research
Continue your search for some businesses that have a guiding principle of ‘people, planet profit’ or similar sustainable business practices.  Provide a brief report (2 paragraphs) on your blog explaining how/should your team, and our class, adopt similar guiding principles.

Group Goals:

Must complete daily report in last 10 minutes of class
